'Californication' Season 3 Episode 3

During this episode 3 of 'Californication' Hank and Becca attend a dinner party for the English Department hosted by Dean Koons and his wife Felicia. Earlier in the episode Hank fantasizes about his student, Jackie, and her profession as a stripper. Jackie is working the dinner party as a bartender, where she and Hank exchange flirtatious dialogue. After Jackie walks in on Felicia kissing Hank, Jackie tells him that he didn't need to settle for Felicia, he could have had her. Hank, like always, has interest but is too cool to act on anything.

In this episode 3, Felicia made it clear that she is interested in Hank; I think she sees him as an outlet and break from her role as the Dean's wife. She is very uptight and conservative with her position; Hank can set her free from her trapped "perfection." I am not sure if things are going to move forward with this storyline. In the next episode they will need to address it, but I don't think they will act anymore on their impulses...at least not for a while.

However, while trying to console his teacher's aide Jill--who was stood up at the dinner party--the best way Hank knows how, he raised her confidence then made love to her on Dean Koons home office desk. Nothing further is going to happen with that, that loss of inhibition was clearly a one time thing showing that Hank and Jill have a relationship that surpasses the norm.

All the while Becca is doing shrooms (psychedelic mushrooms) with Chelsea discussing life, love, and sex. As of episode 3 their relationship has not been revealed to me, I don't know if Chelsea is a positive force in Becca's life, or if she is going to get Becca into trouble--however, with a father like Hank, it would be very hard to get into serious trouble.

Charlie signs his first client at the new agency, teen idol Rick Springfield. He wants to celebrate with Marcy, but when she passes on the offer Charlie finds a scrap of comfort in boss lady Sue Collini. Marcy changes her mind about the celebration and goes to surprise Charlie with champagne at the office only to find him having sex with Sue Collini. There goes Charlies dream of living at home and being together with his wife. Gosh, the poor guy can't win; hopefully this new success and confidence will bring him some luck!
